THE RESURRECTION OF BRONCHO BILLY
Dear John:

To tell you the truth, it's been a long time [since] I have seen such a beautiful short film. I definitely want to include it in the [EuropaCorp short film project] DVD.

THE RESURRECTION OF BRONCHO BILLY
Dear John:
My daughter told me that she got hold of your web site. I was thrilled that you would be so kind as to make me a copy of your great short, Broncho Billy.

When I was fourteen, I saw it on Academy Leaders on PBS and never forgot it. I recorded the sound off the TV onto a cassette and still have that tape.

After all these years, I have wanted to actually see the great short and have never been able to see it. I consider it the best short film ever made and would treasure a copy of it. If you get a chance soon, please send a copy on either DVD or VHS.

I would love to talk to you at great length about the making of it: film stock, what kind of camera was used, budget, all of that and where that pretty girl is and Johnny Crawford is as well.

The film touched me and I would greatly appreciate a copy at your convenience.

Hello John,

I saw your "Bronco Billy" film on PBS in the 70's when I was a kid. When I read about your Oscar for the film, my memory vividly brought back your film back to me. I really enjoyed it back then and I'd love to see it again. Is it possible for me to see it?

Thanks,

Hugo Kobayashi

THE RESURRECTION OF BRONCHO BILLY
After seeing this film on PBS years ago... 30 years ago, maybe?.... I never forgot it. A beautiful little work of art! Hope you can supply me with a DVD copy of this wonderful film.

All best,

Posted on IMDB:

"Caught this one when PBS ran a series in the late '70's focusing on Academy Award winning shorts. THE RESURRECTION OF BRONCO BILLY paints a poignant portrait of a lonely young man whose wistful daydreams slam head-on into harsh reality. His room is wall-papered with western posters; he imagines himself (while standing on a street corner waiting for a light to change) facing off against another gunslinger (they walk toward one another when the light changes, in classic gunfighter fashion -- and then abruptly brush past each other); in the final scene, he is soundly beaten by bullies... but has a final fade-out fantasy of himself as a gallant horseman sweeping a beautiful damsel off her feet. Outstanding even among an entire SERIES of Academy Award winners, THE RESURRECTION OF BRONCO BILLY is the kind of short aspiring filmmakers should seek out and study."

THE RESURRECTION OF BRONCHO BILLY
Dear John,

Broncho Billy offers proof positive that there are, and have been, filmmakers out there who have greatness in their souls. Your story of being a student, gathering together peers to make real a project that you knew could be superlative, and then bringing it full circle is exactly the foundation on which we built the theory of FilmPlayLinks.

...how impressed, how charmed, and how excited I was when I watched Broncho Billy. I've been mulling it over because it's such a layered project and I've got tons of thoughts... just the thoughts of someone who wishes they were there during the creative process. I'm amazed at Johnny Crawford's ability to pull off the nuances necessary for that character. The fantasy, the innocence but the pathos as well. My heart melted all over the place listening to him talk about John Wayne's hat propensities as opposed to Gary Cooper's.

Needless to say I think that it's fabulous and
I'm so proud to be a part of it, albeit decades later.
